We\u2019re here to help.<\/p>\n<p>Today we bring to you <strong>a fast and easy tutorial to make a nice-looking Christmas Baubles<\/strong> also known as Christmas ball ornaments to some of you.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the tutorial you will be know how to create the nice, glossy effect you see on 3D illustrations of metal balls. Use shift to keep it round.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"christmas bauble in illustrator\" width=\"600\" height=\"446\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/niceexcept.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/01-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>Use the <strong>gradient tool<\/strong> to fill the circle. Make a radial gradient in the shape as is shown in the image.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, we made a red gradient so you might use the classic red (<strong>100 magenta<\/strong> and <strong>100 yellow<\/strong> in CMYK). In the image you can see that the center of the gradient is not in the center of the ball but a little to the top right. The darker red goes left and downwards to simulate a shadow.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"christmas bauble in illustrator\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/niceexcept.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/02-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Step 2 \u2013 Adding The Glow And Shadow<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Copy<\/strong> the circle (<span class=\"key\">Ctrl<\/span> \/ <span class=\"key\">Command<\/span> +<span class=\"key\">C<\/span>) and <strong>paste<\/strong> it back (<span class=\"key\">Ctrl<\/span> \/ <span class=\"key\">Command<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">B<\/span>) <strong>twice<\/strong>, so now we have 3 circles overlapped.<\/p>\n<p>Select the one which is above and bring it down and to the left as it\u2019s shown in the image.<\/p>\n<p>Now with the <strong>shift button pressed<\/strong>, we <strong>select both circles <\/strong>and we go to the <strong>pathfinder tool<\/strong> and select <strong>minus front<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"christmas bauble in illustrator\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/niceexcept.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/03-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>Fill the resultant shape with white.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"christmas bauble in illustrator\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/niceexcept.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/04-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>You\u2019ll get an inverted moon, which we will use to add a reflected glow effect on the bauble. Resize and move the shape until it looks like the image below.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"christmas bauble in illustrator\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/niceexcept.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/05-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>Then go to <strong>Effect &gt; Blur &gt; Gaussian Blur<\/strong>, and find the right <strong>Blur Radius <\/strong>that you are happy with.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"christmas bauble in illustrator\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/niceexcept.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/06-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>After that <strong>add transparency<\/strong> to the shape, 50% should do the trick.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"christmas bauble in illustrator\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/niceexcept.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/07-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>Now make a copy of the crescent (<span class=\"key\">Ctrl<\/span> \/ <span class=\"key\">Command<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">C<\/span>, <span class=\"key\">Ctrl<\/span> \/ <span class=\"key\">Command<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">V<\/span>) and use the <strong>reflect tool <\/strong>to reflect it <strong>horizontally and vertically<\/strong> (so that it is opposite the first crescent).<\/p>\n<p>Then <strong>change the color<\/strong> to C=0, M=100, Y=100, K=100. As we are in a red background we won\u2019t use only black.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"christmas bauble in illustrator\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/niceexcept.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/08-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>Use <span class=\"key\">Ctrl<\/span>+<span class=\"key\">2<\/span> to block both crescent shape, so we can select the bottom circle without trouble. Copy and paste back (<span class=\"key\">Ctrl<\/span>+<span class=\"key\">C<\/span> &#038; <span class=\"key\">Ctrl<\/span>+<span class=\"key\">B<\/span>) once again and move it as it\u2019s shown in the pic.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"christmas bauble in illustrator\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/niceexcept.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/09-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>Again we will use the <strong>Pathfinder &gt; Minus Front.<\/strong> Then <strong>fill it with white<\/strong> and <strong>25% transparency<\/strong>. After that resize it smaller. This will give the bauble a nice glossy effect.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"christmas bauble in illustrator\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/niceexcept.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/10-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Step 3 \u2013 The Metal Top<\/h2>\n<p>Let\u2019s create the top hanger. Use the<strong> rounded rectangle tool<\/strong> and fill it with a <strong>linear gradient<\/strong> of <strong>3 greys and 1 white<\/strong>. Manage the gradient to achieve a metal style look.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"christmas bauble in illustrator\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/niceexcept.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/11-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>After that we will inclinate that shape.<\/p>\n<p>Use the <strong>Free Transform tool (E)<\/strong>, <strong>click the corner, hold it while<\/strong> pressing <span class=\"key\">Ctrl<\/span> \/ <span class=\"key\">Command<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">Shift<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">Alt<\/span> and give it the desired shape (you can also reduce the height).<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"christmas bauble in illustrator\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/niceexcept.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/12-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>Then make a circle above, copy and paste back (<span class=\"key\">Ctrl<\/span> \/ <span class=\"key\">Command<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">C<\/span> &#038; <span class=\"key\">Ctrl<\/span> \/ <span class=\"key\">Command<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">B<\/span>) we resize the one on the top.<\/p>\n<p>Then with both selected go to <strong>pathfinder<\/strong> and select <strong>Exclude<\/strong>. This way we will crop the circle and have a &#8220;wheel&#8221; as shown in the pic.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"christmas bauble in illustrator\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/niceexcept.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/13-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Step 4 \u2013 The Decoration<\/h2>\n<p>To give the bauble the final touch, you could add <strong>stars, snowflakes, lines, circles<\/strong>, etc. In this case we made 3 lines but at this link you will be able to download the final artwork and other examples.<\/p>\n<p>To add the three lines, use the <strong>rectangle tool<\/strong> and <strong>draw three rectangles,<\/strong> <strong>make a group <\/strong>(<span class=\"key\">Ctrl<\/span> \/ <span class=\"key\">Command<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">G<\/span>) with them and we <strong>make a gradient in light brown<\/strong> so it looks golden.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"christmas bauble in illustrator\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/niceexcept.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/14-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>Then <strong>Copy and Paste Back<\/strong> the big circle again and <strong>bring it to the front<\/strong>. Select rectangles and the copied circle and we will make a<strong> clipping mask<\/strong> (<span class=\"key\">Ctrl<\/span> \/ <span class=\"key\">Command<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">7<\/span>). This will crop the lines so they fit the circle.<\/p>\n<p>Now select the circle and the rectangles and<strong> bring them back<\/strong> (<strong>right click &gt; arrange bring to back<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"christmas bauble in illustrator\" width=\"600\" height=\"333\" class=\"lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/niceexcept.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/15-1.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>And, that\u2019s it.
